Police allege weapons, explosives found in Outlook Drive home; Figtree man charged

Wollongong police have charged a Figtree man after he was allegedly found with multiple firearms, knives and items to make explosives.

About 9:15 am on Thursday (6 February), police carried out a Firearms Prohibition Order compliance check at a home in Outlook Drive, Figtree.

Police claim they seized three registered firearms, an unregistered firearm, ammunition and firearm accessories, five slingshots, perimeter alarms, more than 20 firearm parts, powder used to make explosives, fuses, four detonators with a remote control, two flick knives, a gel blaster, three extendable batons and an electronic stun device.

A firearms licence was also seized.

On Friday afternoon (7 February), police arrested a 55-year-old man at Wollongong Police Station.

He was charged with six counts of possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit, two counts of possess unauthorised firearm, two counts of acquire firearm part without authority to do so, possess unauthorised prohibited firearm, and holder of category A or B licence not have approved storage.

The man was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court today (Saturday, 8 February).
