A second Wollongong man has been charged over alleged involvement in a large-scale fraud syndicate.

A NSW Police spokesperson said a 42-year-old man was arrested in his car, parked on Glebe Street in Wollongong at 7:40 am on Sunday, (13 October).

The arrest came after an investigation by Strike Force Acned, formed in July 2024, to investigate an alleged large-scale fraud syndicate in the Illawarra and Sydney regions.

“The man was taken to Wollongong police station where he was charged with recklessly deal with proceeds of crime more than $5000 and participate in a criminal group or contribute to criminal activity,” the NSW Police spokesperson said.

“He appeared in Wollongong Local Court on Sunday (13 October), where he was formally refused bail to reappear in the same court on (Monday 14).”

A 33-year-old man charged earlier this month over alleged involvement in the same syndicate, remains before the court.
