Police charge Tarrawanna man with domestic violence, drug offences

Police have arrested a man after a woman was allegedly choked, assaulted and stalked.

A NSW Police spokesperson said police were contacted on Sunday (21 July), regarding concerns for the welfare of a 48-year-old woman after she was allegedly threatened a number of times – once allegedly with a weapon.

“At about 1:40 pm on Tuesday (23 July) officers attached to the Southern Domestic Violence High Risk Offenders Team attended a home in Devenish Street, Tarrawanna, where they arrested a 40-year-old man in the backyard,” the police spokesperson said.

“The man was taken to Wollongong Police Station where he was charged with intentionally choking a person without consent (domestic violence), being armed with the intent to commit an indictable offence, stalking or intimidating with the intention to fear physical harm (domestic violence), and a domestic violence common assault.

“He was also charged with two counts of possessing a prohibited drug. Police will allege in court that methylamphetamine and heroin were found in his possession when searched.”

The man was refused bail to appear in Wollongong Local Court on Wednesday 24 July 2024.
