The perpetrator of a fowl crime was identified today – and it’s left police with egg on their faces.
A brutal attack that left 29 chickens dead at Corrimal High School in December made headlines around the country.
At the time an Acting Inspector from Wollongong Police District said the incident was deeply disturbing.
“These animals have been subjected to horrific acts of cruelty,” the Acting Inspector said.
“It is clear this was not the act of a fox or a feral cat – these chickens were well cared for by the facility and for someone to do this is beyond belief.”
After a two-week investigation, however, police have changed their tune.
In a media release on Friday (3 January), an unnamed NSW Police spokesperson said the investigation into the chickens’ deaths determined they were, in fact, killed by a fox.
The NSW Police spokesperson said the conclusion was reached after police received “expert advice”.
The predatory perpetrator is unlikely to be punished for its crimes.
“There will be no further police action,” the NSW Police spokesperson said.
