Police investigate alleged car theft after chase between Flinders and Warrawong

Police are investigating a pursuit between Flinders and Warrawong involving an allegedly stolen vehicle.

A NSW Police spokesperson said that at about 8 am on Wednesday (31 July), officers attached to Lake Illawarra Traffic and Highway Patrol were travelling on Lakeview Road, Flinders, when they spotted an allegedly stolen vehicle travelling in the opposite direction.

“A short time later a pursuit was initiated before being terminated due to safety reasons,” the spokesperson said.

“About 8:55 am, the car was located abandoned in an underground carpark on Cowper Street, Warrawong, where it has been seized for forensic examination.

“The vehicle was allegedly stolen from a carpark on Centre Road, Mascot, on Thursday 25 July 2024.”

As inquiries continue police are urging anyone who may have information about the matter – or any available dashcam/mobile phone footage – to contact Oak Flats Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Information is treated in strict confidence.
