Police investigating pistol found in backpack at Fairy Meadow park

NSW Police are calling on the public for information about a pistol found at Thomas Dalton Park, Fairy Meadow.

Detectives have released images of the firearm, which was found in October last year.

About 2:30 pm on Sunday 6 October, a 37-year-old man attended a sporting event at the park on Pioneer Road, when he found a grey Puma backpack.

A black pistol wrapped in a sock inside a clear zip-lock resealable bag was found in the bag.

The man reported the find to Wollongong Police District and specialist police conducted a forensic examination of the pistol.

Anyone with information on the firearm should contact Wollongong Police or call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
