Kiama residents have expressed their disgust at an incident involving two tourists in the town centre on Sunday night.

A post to social media claimed a male and female tourist were allegedly attacked outside a fast food restaurant and then urinated on by a “group of local sports players”.

The post claimed the tourist were “terrified” by the incident, in which the woman’s glasses were also damaged.

NSW Police confirmed an incident occurred about 9:30 pm at the corner of Terralong and Collins streets.

However, they could not confirm the allegations the pair was urinated on, or that it involved local sports players.

“Officers attached to Lake Illawarra Police District attended and found a group of males allegedly trying to move a 21-year-old male on, following an alleged verbal altercation,” a NSW Police spokesperson said.

“Police were told a 45-year-old woman and 19-year-old man were sitting on a bench seat when they were approached by the male, who spoke to the pair before allegedly picking up the woman’s glasses and breaking them.

“Police issued the 21-year-old with a move on order for being intoxicated and disorderly in a public place.”

A number of residents commented on the post, saying the act was “absolutely disgusting” and that it was embarrassing to be a local.
