A police officer has been charged after he allegedly accessed and shared restricted police data.

A NSW Police spokesperson said that in January 2026, officers attached to the Professional Standards Command began an investigation into allegations an officer was illegally accessing and distributing restricted police data.

Strike Force Dalton was formed to investigate the claims.

“Following inquiries, a 33-year-old male constable attached to a command in the Southern Region was arrested in the Illawarra region on Thursday 19 March 2026,” the NSW Police spokesperson said.

“Search warrants were subsequently executed, and a number of electronic items have been seized for further examination.

“The officer has now been charged with holder of public office misconduct him or herself.

“Police will allege the officer unlawfully accessed NSW Police Force information and disclosed it to individuals believed to be connected to criminal elements.”

The man has been granted conditional bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday 5 May 2026.

The officer has been suspended without pay.
