UPDATED 2:25 pm, Wednesday: NSW Police have found the body of a man in a car which was submerged at the Audley Weir. Police divers recovered the body about 10:20 am; he is yet to be formally identified. Sutherland Police were told a blue Audi sedan and a silver Mercedes sedan were travelling on Audley Road, near Riverside Road, Audley, before the blue sedan left the roadway, entered the water and sank. The 20-year-old male driver escaped the vehicle, however his male passenger aged in his 20s did not.

A man is feared drowned after he became trapped in a submerged car in the Royal National Park in the early hours of Wednesday (6 May).

A NSW Police spokesperson said a multiagency search operation was underway to find the car’s passenger, believed to be aged in his 20s.

Sutherland Shire police found a vehicle with two occupants had left the road before entering the water and becoming submerged.

The driver – a 20-year-old man – managed to get out of the vehicle and was taken to hospital for mandatory testing. However, his passenger remained trapped in the vehicle.
