Wollongong City Council has closed the Revolve Centre at Whyte’s Gully tip, but has assured residents it’s only a temporary measure.
The centre, where residents could dispose of preloved items rather than dumping them in the tip, was closed late last year.
A council spokesperson said a review of the centre was underway, including accessibility, navigation and safety improvements for it and the neighbouring Community Recycling Centre (CRC).
“The Revolve Centre is recognised as a valued service to our community, offering locals a place to give a second life to their preloved items. Council is committed to re-establishing a safe Revolve Centre as soon as possible,” the spokesperson said.
“Council is working on enhancing the service to the community. The completed improvements at the Revolve Centre and CRC include clearer designation of vehicle lanes, speed limits and dedicated parking spaces as well as automated boom gates and pedestrian paths.
“Council will have some exciting news soon with regards to the delivery of our Revolve Centre and CRC areas, which aim to establish new and improved Revolve Centre operations.
“Our focus is to extend its lifespan so that it continues to be a much-loved part of the Wollongong Waste and Resource Recovery Park (Whyte’s Gully).”
Council aims to reopen the centre by August.
Residents can still drop off items such as e-waste, metal, cardboard and motor oil at the Community Recycling Centre. Council suggests residents can donate preloved undamaged goods to local op shops, but should check with their local outlets to make sure they are accepting donations.
