Meet our lovable Pets of the Week looking for forever homes at the RSPCA Illawarra Shelter!
Dog of the week: Akka
Meet Akka! Akka is a handsome four-year-old Siberian husky eagerly seeking his forever family.
An Arctic breed, Akka comes with unique personality traits and quirks that make him the perfect family man.
Cuddles are his forte and there’s nothing he loves more than a big cuddle and sloppy kiss – except maybe a nice walk around the neighbourhood.
Whether it’s cozying up indoors or enjoying some outdoor adventures, you can count on this playful and loving boy to be down for it all.
Akka gets along well with youngsters, however his ideal human siblings would be more than six years old and confident around pups his size – as anyone who’s owned huskies knows, they can be a little boisterous at times!
An owner who understands this and has maybe had huskies before would be perfect for Akka.
A home that has secure fencing is also a must for Akka to ensure he is safe and happy.
A clever boy, enrichment toys and interactive feeders are excellent for keeping his mind sharp.
He also doesn’t mind being left alone occasionally – as long as he has some toys, treats, water and a comfy spot to rest he’ll be content until your return.
Akka is a social pup who gets along well with other dogs who share his friendly demeanour. If you already have a furry friend, make sure to arrange a meet-up before adopting.
If you’re seeking a loyal companion who’s ready to charm his way into your heart, stop by the RSPCA Illawarra shelter and say hello to Akka!
Cat of the Week: Christopher
Meet Christopher! Christopher is a dashing one-year-old ginger boy ready to find a loving home.
Christopher arrived at the Illawarra as a stray kitten and sadly no-one ever came to claim him.
Next week he will mark more than 150 days in care. Though Christopher loves his friends at the RSPCA and will miss all of the wonderful people that helped care for him, he really hopes he finds a home of his own before then!
Christopher has spent most of his life in care, so he will need a loving and patient owner who can help him settle in and adjust to all of the interesting sounds and smells of his new home.
Once settled, you will see this little man’s confidence soar as he begins to explore his new surroundings and show off his adventurous and playful spirit.
It would be best if Christopher can be the only cat when he goes home, just to make his transition to his new life as smooth as possible and ensure he gets all the attention he needs.
One thing’s for sure, it won’t be long until there is a sunny window perch or comfy spot on the couch with Christopher’s name on it!
Though Christopher isn’t all that fond of being picked up and overhandled, he still loves his humans and will come up to you for attention when he pleases.
Christopher would be best suited to a home with no young children, as he is quite an independent boy who would prefer to relax and watch the latest Hollywood blockbuster by your side rather than be all up in your business.
After all, ginger cats are renowned for their loving but super-chill demeanour!
If you have room in your home and heart for this special boy, please reach out to the Illawarra shelter. Though loved by staff, 150 days is far too long for Christopher to be in care.
Last week’s dog of the week, Maloney, has found his furever home – but cat Moo Moo is still on the prowl.
Visit the RSPCA at 54 Industrial Rd, Unanderra, and add a new companion to your life – you won’t regret it!
Opening hours: Tuesday – Sunday, 10 am – 3:30 pm. Closed Mondays and public holidays. Call (02) 4271 3410.
