Meet our lovable Pets of the Week looking for forever homes at the RSPCA Illawarra Shelter!
Dog of the week: Annabeth
Meet Annabeth! Annabeth is a playful five-month-old rottweiler mix looking for her new home!
Annabeth is full of beans, eager to learn and intelligent, and already has a few tricks up her sleeve at only five months old!
Annabeth has had a crazy journey so far and will need to catch up on as much sleep as she can being a young puppy – this can be up to 18 to 20 hours a day! Having a quiet spot in the house where she can nap undisturbed and practise independence would suit Annabeth perfectly.
Annabeth would also suit a family who has experience with working breeds as she is a mix of both! She will likely grow up to be a medium to large dog, so a home with a bit more space for her and a backyard to practise puppy zoomies would be excellent. Annabeth’s new home will also need to have secure fencing to keep her safe and ensure she can’t take herself on any unplanned adventures before she gets bigger!
Aside from lots of cuddles and love, Annabeth will need daily enrichment to keep her smart mind active. While this includes walks, effective enrichment combines a variety of activities to stimulate all the senses!
Annabeth can’t wait to go to puppy school with her new owners where she can meet other pups her age in a calm and positive manner. It would be a dream for her to go to a home with an older, calm dog, who can teach her all about puppy manners. If you’ve got a sibling for her, please bring them in to meet!
Cat of the week: Bugs
Meet Bugs! Bugs is a friendly six-month-old tabby kitten looking for his forever home!
Bugs came into the shelter as a tiny stray, weighing only 500 grams. He went straight into foster care with one of the lovely staff at the Illawarra shelter until he was big enough to find his forever home. It has been some time since Bugs arrived and he is eager to start the next chapter of his life!
In foster care, Bugs shared a home with a dog, so he would be suitable to go to a home with a doggy friend as long as they are friendly with him! He has also interacted well with other kittens in the shelter, so he can go home with someone who already has cats as long as they are nice to him too!
Due to his quiet nature, Bugs would thrive in a calm household where he can feel safe and secure. For this reason, it’s best he goes to a home without children under 12. This will allow him the space and calmness he needs to come out of his shell at his own pace.
Though Bugs may be a bit shy and timid at first, don’t let that fool you — behind his reserved exterior is a heart full of love that’s just waiting to blossom. He has been told by staff that he is a little love bug! He enjoys giving plenty of attention to his favourite humans and loves his pats.
This gentle boy cannot wait to find his forever home. If Bugs sounds like the loving companion you’ve been dreaming of please call the Illawarra shelter on (02) 4271 3410 or visit 54 Industrial Rd, Unanderra from 10 am to 3:30 pm, Tuesday to Sunday.
