Meet our loveable Pets of the Week looking for their forever homes while at the RSPCA Illawarra Shelter.

Cat of the week: Blackberry

Currently in care at an RSPCA foster home, Blackberry is searching for a family who can make her feel truly secure.

Though initially protective of her valuable personal space, Blackberry delights in enjoying simple pleasures – warm sunlit spots and quiet afternoons with her most trusted human friends.

This sweet one-year-old will greet you with a purr once you’ve managed to gain her trust and will happily provide you with affection as you enjoy life’s quieter moments together.

Blackberry would thrive with an experienced cat owner who will recognise her needs and give her the time, space and reassurance she needs to settle in.

She’s best suited to a home with children aged 15 and over, where her aversion for noise and preference for routine will be respected.

As she is currently in foster care, prospective adopters are encouraged to submit an expression of interest form before arranging a meeting with the RSPCA NSW team.

You can also reach out to the team at the Illawarra shelter on (02) 4271 3410 to learn more about becoming a foster carer.

Bird of the week: Moltres

One-year-old parrot Moltres is looking for a family who understands just how unique and rewarding life with a feathered friend can be.

Caring for a parrot like Moltres isn’t quite like looking after your typical companion animal, but for the right person, it’s an irreplaceable and incredibly fulfilling experience.

New Zealand kakarikis like Moltres are curious and full of character and this multicoloured gal is no exception.

She loves finding high spots to survey her home and exploring her surroundings, making an aviary-style setup the ideal environment for her to settle into.

While she isn’t fully comfortable with people handling her just yet, Moltres brings her own kind of joy with her friendly and inquisitive demeanour.

With attentive care, regular enrichment and a safe space to call her own, she has all the potential to become a fascinating and confident friend for life.

Visit the RSPCA at 54 Industrial Road, Unanderra and add a new companion to your life – you won’t regret it! Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 10 am to 3:30 pm. Closed Mondays and public holidays. Call 02 4271 3410.
