Meet our loveable Pets of the Week looking for their forever homes while at the RSPCA Illawarra Shelter.

Dog of the week: Buster

Meet Buster!

Big head. Yoda ears. Seal noises. Zero shame.

Four-year-old Buster is a big, goofy Staffy cross with a heart to match his oversized noggin.

He’s affectionate, expressive, and guaranteed to make you laugh daily with his very unique vocal talents.

He’s looking for a home with kids aged 15 or older and an experienced dog owner who understands that learning about life takes time.

Beyond his cheery appearance, Buster is a sweet and affectionate pooch who clings tightly to his friends.

He may look like a big, confident boy, but if he finds himself in new places or with unfamiliar people, he can be a little uncertain about coming out of his shell.

He is selective in his friendships with other dogs, and is not suited to the chaos of an off-leash dog park or beach.

That’s why he needs someone who understands that confidence grows with time.

With calm, positive reinforcement and slow, force-free guidance, Buster’s true and dazzling colours will be able to truly shine.

Buster would be best suited to a family with dog experience who can provide consistent, gentle encouragement.

Although he deserves nothing less, he isn’t chasing perfection: all he wants is a safe, understanding home where he can feel supported as he continues to learn and grow.

Dog of the week: Sushi

Meet Sushi!

This seven-month-old akita pup’s bright eyes and curiosity say he’s ready to find a home that can nurture his potential.

Like many akita puppies, Sushi thrives when given clear guidance and a routine.

That’s why he’d be best suited to a dog-savvy family who understands the importance of consistency, positive reinforcement, and a steady home environment.

Sushi would do well in a home where his carers can dedicate time to daily training, play, and enrichment activities.

Given his young age, busy off-leash dog parks aren’t ideal just yet, as he’s still learning how to socialise and can be selective with other dogs.

His forever person will have to understand that careful introductions, supervision, and patience will be key as Sushi continues to mature.

Sushi is positively jumping to learn, explore, and forge lifelong bonds with his new family.
