Meet our lovable Pets of the Week looking for forever homes at the RSPCA Illawarra Shelter
Dog of the week: Cardinal
Cardinal is a handsome one-year-old pup searching for his new forever home.
Cardinal arrived at the Illawarra RSPCA shelter as a stray and has patiently waited for a family to call his own for more than 160 days.
Cardinal is a smart boy and really enjoys having something to do to keep his mind busy! Snuffle and lick mats are his favourite ways to stay entertained, especially while his favourite people are out.
As he is still a young dog, Cardinal will thrive in a home with owners who can set aside some time to work with him on his tricks and commands. This makes for excellent bonding and is a great way to spend some quality time together!
Any kids at home will need to be over the age of 12 and confident around dogs. Cardinal doesn’t have much experience around kids and may be a bit boisterous at first. He is an excitable pup who loves staying active with daily exercise and play.
Cardinal’s ideal home will have a secure backyard with somewhere he can escape to to be out of the weather.
He is a bit shy during thunderstorms so will need a home where he can come inside and cuddle during these spooky events!
Just quietly, he wouldn’t mind if he was allowed to come inside for cuddles the rest of the time, too.
If you would like to meet this beautiful boy, please contact the Illawarra Shelter.
Cat of the Week: Polly
Are you a fan of The Muppets’ Miss Piggy?
Are you looking for a feline companion?
Illawarra RSPCA has your new best friend – meet Polly.
Polly is a lovable two-year-old Snowshoe cat. Much like Miss Piggy, she loves to be the star of the show – and sharing the limelight isn’t her thing.
She adores human company and would prefer to be an only child, with you as her beloved Kermit. With a personality this big, who needs other cats anyway?
Moving into a new home can be a bit daunting for any animal, especially for a star like Polly.
She gets a little nervous around new places and faces, so starting her in a cozy “launch room” will give her the time she needs to settle in comfortably and get to know her new family at her own pace.
After all, you wouldn’t book a glamourpuss without giving her her own dressing room, would you?
Once Polly feels at home, she’ll be eager to shower you with affection. She’s often called a love bug by staff for her tendency to give lots of attention to her favourite humans. Polly especially loves being carried around so she can give you kisses and face bunts whenever she pleases!
Despite her loving nature, she is still learning how to trust and is continuing to work on her confidence.
Her ideal home would be on the quieter side with no young children to make sure she can come out of her shell at her own pace.
Polly likes to play as much as any kitten and delights in her toys. To keep her safe and sound, it’s essential this sweet girl is kept indoors. This not only protects her from getting lost and keeps her safe from traffic, but it also keeps her cute white face safe from the sun.
If you’re looking for a loving, playful, and devoted cat, Polly is your girl! Come meet her and see if she’s the perfect fit for your family.
Last week’s dog of the week, Sally, has been adopted. Cat of the week Daley is still looking for her forever home.
Long-term RSPCA Illawarra residents Bugs the kitten, Akka the husky, Jupiter, Jessie, Bubbles, Patsy, Commando and Kenny have also found their new families.
