Meet our lovable Pets of the Week looking for forever homes while at the RSPCA Illawarra Shelter

Dog of the week: Ryah

Meet Ryah!

Ryah is a shy but enthusiastic, three-year-old American bulldog cross with a heart full of potential, just waiting to begin her life in her forever home.

Ryah would thrive with experienced owners who have plenty of patience and can understand her doggy body language and identify when she might need a little break.

She is looking for a family where she can be a true part of the pack – enjoying daily walks once she’s settled in and moving inside to get comfy on a soft bed by your feet in the evening.

Ryah is a friendly girl and would do best in a home with children who are confident around dogs.

Ryah is still working on her own confidence, so a calm, understanding environment is ideal. While she may be shy at first, Ryah warms up quickly with a little time and patience, and once she does, you’ll see her incredibly sweet and loyal nature shine through!

Bulldogs like Ryah are known for their affectionate and laid-back nature, making them fantastic family pets. Despite their sturdy appearance, they are gentle souls who love to snuggle, relax, and be part of the family. They are loyal, calm, and excellent companions, particularly for families who appreciate their unique charm.

Ryah is eager to explore the world, and with positive reinforcement training, she’ll continue to grow into the best version of herself.

She enjoys mental stimulation, like interactive feeders and enrichment activities, which keep her mind and body active.

While Ryah is very calm and chilled around people, she’s picky when it comes to other dogs and would prefer to be the only pet in the household.

She’s happiest being the star of the show and doesn’t much fancy dog parks and beaches where there are lots of other dogs.

Thanks to the generosity of a single donor all dogs and puppies in the Illawarra and across the state have had their adoption fees waived for a time. To help your new family member settle in smoothly and further help with the costs of adopting, new owners will also receive a complimentary care package.

To meet Ryah, please contact the Unanderra RSPCA shelter.

Bunnies of the week: Harvey and Norman

Harvey and Norman are two lovable bunny buddies looking for their forever home!

Harvey is a beautiful Flemish giant cross and Norman is a New Zealand cross.

These sweet boys came to the shelter as strays, but despite their rough start, they’ve blossomed into gentle companions.

Both Harvey and Norman have been desexed, vaccinated and given all their preventatives while in care; the only thing left now is for them to hop on into a loving home where they can feel safe and secure.

Rabbits make wonderful pets – they’re social, intelligent and sweet companions who can form strong bonds with their humans. They enjoy spending time with their families, filling up on delicious hay and veggies and are full of personality!

Harvey and Norman are no exception; they are curious and love exploring their surroundings.

With their ultrasoft fur and calm and gentle natures, they’ll bring a lot of joy and warmth to any home.

It’s important to note that building trust with rabbits takes time and patience, and Harvey and Norman are no different.

They’ll need an owner who’s willing to take it slow, allowing them to come out of their shells at their own pace. Once they feel comfortable, these two will reward you with their affectionate and playful natures.

Although Harvey and Norman came into care together, they are not bonded and can go home separately if needed.

Rabbits are social animals who benefit from having another bunny companion around, so if you do have another bun at home, make sure you are familiar with the bonding process!

If you’re looking for sweet, loving companions who will bring plenty of happiness to your life, Harvey and Norman might just be the perfect pair for you! If you’re ready to give these boys a forever home, please contact the shelter.

Previous pets of the week Diesel and Zola have found their forever homes. Delilah the cat is still on the hunt for hers.

Visit the RSPCA at 54 Industrial Rd, Unanderra, and add a new companion to your life – you won’t regret it! Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 10 am to 3:30 pm. Closed Mondays and public holidays. Call 4271 3410.
