The search for missing fisherman Tony Andeliero will be scaled back, after a fruitless four-day hunt on land and sea.

Emergency services were first called to Windang Island near Warilla about 6:40 pm on Friday, 3 January 2025 after a 4m Quintrex aluminium boat was found empty and drifting.

Tony was last seen on Friday morning and his vehicle and empty boat trailer were located in the Port Kembla boat ramp car park.

A NSW Police spokesperson said they believe Tony was alone on the boat.

Since then members of the SES, Marine Rescue NSW, Surf Life Saving NSW, Shellharbour City Council, PolAir, Marine Area Command, Lake Illawarra Police and the NSW Police Rescue Unit have scoured the waters and shore from Port Kembla Harbour to Barrack Point.

Search efforts on Monday, 6 January were called to a halt at 3 pm when a thunderstorm created challenging and dangerous conditions.

The search for 61-year-old Tony will continue over coming days, however, police said the search will now be “scaled back” and limited to the water, with Marine Area Command, Surf Life Saving NSW, Marine Rescue NSW and council lifeguards conducting ongoing patrols over coming days.
