Another teenager has been charged following the vandalism of a mosque in Gwynneville.
About 11 am on Thursday 1 August 2024, a 15-year-old boy was arrested at Lake Illawarra Police Station.
He was charged with three counts of damage property in company, enter enclosed land not prescribed premises without a lawful excuse, and shoplifting.
He was granted conditional bail to appear in a children’s court on Tuesday 13 August 2024.
Police will allege the teen was involved in serious acts of vandalism against the mosque in Gwynneville that left interior and exterior walls with significant damage.
Police will also allege in court the boy stole food from a service station in Warrawong on two occasions in July.
His arrest was part of Operation Regional Mongoose.
Operation Regional Mongoose is a high-visibility police operation to tackle serious property-related crime committed predominately by young offenders.
In June 2024, Regional Mongoose was established in the Illawarra to investigate offenders across the Wollongong and Lake Illawarra Police Districts, with assistance from the Region Enforcement Squad.
