If you’ve ever wanted to shake up your knowledge of nature, Wollongong Botanic Garden can help you out with a free event in September.
Nature Shake, on 6 and 7 September, will help to launch the garden’s refreshed education and learning program.
About 300 students from local primary schools will visit the garden on Friday, 6 September, for a variety of curriculum-linked taster activities.
Saturday, 7 September, will be a free community day with hands-on activities for all ages, including waste and biodiversity games, bird bingo by the pond and opportunities to engage in bush tucker.
A series of sustainability displays will be scattered throughout the garden as well as opportunities to find out more about FOGO and how it’s helping to grow the tiny forest.

Visitors are encouraged to take part in a self-guided garden trail and enjoy a picnic in the garden’s 27 ha.
Education and Outreach Specialist Sam Crosby said fostering a deeper connection with nature and the environment created a more sustainable future for Wollongong.
“We are shaking up our educational offering with fresh eyes to meet the needs and expectations of the community,” she said.
“We’ll also showcase important work that we and other agencies undertake to care for our local environment.
“Botanic gardens aren’t just a place for conservation and relaxation. We’re also here to provide learning opportunities for all ages.”
The Nature Shake community day on 7 September will run from noon to 4 pm. A coffee van and a gozleme stall will be near the Education Centre.
