After the success of PromenART’s Sculpture Walks, The Waterfront, Shell Cove’s boardwalks and public areas have transformed into a free open-air photographic gallery for PromenART 2026.
Open until 30 October, it features more than 75 large format images by more than 25 established and emerging photographers that celebrate the people, landscapes and wildlife of the region.
The show’s six-week run will include live music, photography workshops and family-friendly activities.
Attendees will also be able to learn more about each work and the artist responsible for it, along with voting in the online People’s Choice Award for their favourite piece, by scanning the QR codes near the images.
Illawarra artists featured in the show include Alana Taylor with her cockatoo and beach pictures, Dee Kramer with his aerial shots of Shellharbour pool, Ray Collins with his wave shots and Jordan Robins with his “over/under” water photography.
Alana Taylor said her sunrise photograph of Shellharbour South Beach was about connection to the ocean.
“Growing up here, the ocean has always been part of the rhythm of life,” Alana said.
“We swim in it, walk beside it, gather around it and return to it again and again.
“This image is a quiet celebration of that connection, of familiar places, simple rituals, and the extraordinary beauty of an ordinary morning on the South Coast.”

Organised by Frasers Property Australia and Shellharbour City Council, the works are dotted throughout the boat ramp, marina services, town centre and the eastern side of the marina.
Shell Cove community development manager Tina Britton said the decision to focus on photography over sculpture this year was to ensure PromenART was always surprising and fresh for the many people from the region and beyond who were drawn to the event.
“It was also a chance to see our own area reflected back, from new angles and fresh perspectives,” she said.
“The collection ranges from wildlife to portraits to ocean scenes to contemporary shots and everything in between and we think it will really encourage people to stop and contemplate the beautiful surrounds we live in.”
She said the works were positioned to encourage a meandering exploration of the waterside outdoor spaces of Shell Cove, with the marina as the backdrop.
Shellharbour City Council Mayor Chris Homer said he hoped PromenART would draw residents and visitors from throughout the Illawarra and beyond.
“It is a fantastic opportunity for residents and visitors alike to experience the richness of the arts community, explore our marina and enjoy all that the area has to offer,” Cr Homer said.
“We look forward to seeing people come together to celebrate creativity and culture.”
The PromenART 2026 photography exhibition is free and open until 30 October at The Waterfront, Shell Cove.
