A sculpture that encourages community connections and conversations will become a permanent part of The Waterfront at Shell Cove.
The work, Conversations, by acclaimed artist Phillip Piperides, was voted the people’s choice winner when it was displayed as part of last year’s PromenART exhibition.
It was permanently installed on Monday (22 April) at Shellharbour Marina.
Inspired by the essence of human connection and interaction, Conversations is described as “a testament to the power of dialogue and exchange”.
Shellharbour Mayor Chris Homer said the artwork would enrich the marina and foster a sense of unity and belonging within the community.
“The people voted this piece as their favourite from PromenART 2023 and we are so grateful to artist Phillip Piperides for his exceptional talent and vision,” he said.
“As Shell Cove continues to evolve and grow, the sculpture will remain a cherished landmark, inviting individuals to pause, reflect, and engage in the artistry that surrounds them.”
The artwork is funded through the Shell Cove Project by Shellharbour City Council and Frasers Property Australia.
Frasers Community Development Manager Tina Britton said PromenART was part of the wider placemaking program at The Waterfront, aimed at creating stronger, smarter, happier neighbourhoods that leave a positive legacy.
“We invest in activities that create cohesive, successful communities over the long-term, so our events and activations create opportunities for social connection and build a strong sense of belonging for residents and visitors alike,” she said.
“Art has the power to evoke emotions, and we believe this sculpture will resonate deeply with the community, start conversations and forge greater community connections.”
