Six new faces will join three returning councillors on Kiama Council following the declaration of the local government election.

The makeup of the next Kiama Council was confirmed at 2:51 pm on Monday (30 September) following the counting of preferential votes.

The new council will be Matt Brown, Imogen Draisma, Stuart Larkins (all returning), Mike Cains, Melinda Lawton, Melissa Matters, Cameron McDonald, Yasmin Tatrai and Erica Warren.

Council CEO Jane Stroud will swear them in at the first ordinary meeting of the council on Tuesday, 8 October.

The referendum question on whether to change to the direct (popular) election of the Mayor at future elections resulted in 54.67 per cent of residents voting no.

Councillors will vote for a Mayor and Deputy Mayor at the 8 October meeting, as well as establish a meeting schedule.

Ms Stroud congratulated the elected councillors and thanked everyone who ran for office.

“I look forward to working alongside you all throughout the next term of council,” she said.

Behind the scenes a comprehensive induction program is being finalised to welcome the new councillors, as well as outline the range of services, facilities and legislative responsibilities that Kiama Council undertakes.
