A young driver is paying the price for allegedly driving at more than 60 km/h over the speed limit on the M1 Princes Motorway at Cataract.

According to a recent post from NSW Traffic and Highway Patrol, the 17-year-old provisional P1 driver was on his way to school on 25 February when he was allegedly detected travelling at 162 km/h on the motorway in a 100 km/h zone.

The young driver was issued with an infringement for a P1 driver exceeding the speed limit by over 45 km/h with a penalty of $3054. His licence was immediately suspended for six months.

Ironically, in coming weeks Traffic and Highway Patrol Officers are scheduled to conduct road safety presentations to students at a number of Illawarra high schools to educate and increase awareness of the dangers on our roads and possible consequences of poor driving behaviour.

It appears to have come too late for this P-plater.
