A teenager allegedly brought 3D-printed weapons to the University of Wollongong campus in Keiraville on Sunday, police say.
A NSW Police spokesperson said they received a report that a firearm was allegedly seen in a room on the Northfields Avenue educational facility about 2:40 pm on Sunday (10 August).
“Following inquiries, at about 9:45 pm detectives, with the assistance of officers attached to the Tactical Operations Group, executed a search warrant at the location,” the NSW Police spokesperson said.
“During the search, police allegedly located and seized two firearms and electronic devices.”
Police arrested an 18-year-old man who was taken to Wollongong Police Station and charged with possessing an unauthorised firearm, not keeping a firearm safely, possessing an unregistered pistol, not keeping a pistol safely, and possessing a digital blueprint for the manufacture of firearms.
He was refused bail and will appear before Bail Division Court on Monday (11 August).
A spokesperson for the University of Wollongong said they were working with police following the on-campus incident.
“The matter was resolved peacefully and we want to reassure the community that there is no ongoing risk to the safety of our students, staff or visitors and the campus remains open and operating as normal today,” the University of Wollongong spokesperson said.
“The university is assisting police with their enquiry and will continue to support our community. As the matter is the subject of an active NSW Police investigation it would be inappropriate for us to comment further at this time.”
