A 50-year-old man has been charged over allegedly procuring and selling unauthorised law enforcement uniform and insignia.
The arrest came after drug and firearms squad detectives executed a search warrant at a home in Thirroul, where they seized a mobile phone.
A NSW Police spokesperson said the bust was conducted under the auspices of Strike Force Ambania, established by the State Crime Command in June.
The strike force was established to investigate the alleged criminal activity of a 50-year-old man employed by a company involved in the procurement and disposal of NSW Police Force uniforms and insignia.
“On Thursday 12 June 2025, strike force detectives executed a search warrant at a home in Thirroul, where they seized a mobile phone,” the NSW Police spokesperson said.
“Analysis of the mobile phone found evidence of the man allegedly attempting to sell 71 NSWPF pieces of uniform and insignia, of which 28 were sold.
“Detectives also uncovered evidence the man was allegedly in possession of firearms.”
The man was arrested at about 8 am on Tuesday (29 July) at Sutherland Police Station.
He was charged with possessing an unauthorised prohibited firearm, possessing an unauthorised pistol, attempting to dispose of stolen property worth less than $5000 and dispose of stolen property worth less than $5000.
The man was refused bail to appear in Sutherland Local Court.
The police spokesperson said although the man had access to NSWPF uniform and insignia through his employment, investigations were continuing to determine the source of the items.
