Two men have been charged after a drone allegedly carrying drugs in a dog poo bag crashed in the yard of a Wollongong unit complex.

A NSW Police spokesperson said the drone was found in the grounds of a Corrimal Street unit on Tuesday (28 April). Police allege the drone had been carrying 66 g of methylamphetamine in a dog waste bag.

Police arrived at the unit about 11:45 pm on Tuesday and found two men – aged 43 and 24 – allegedly hiding inside the complex.

The men told officers they were searching for a drone that had crashed.

After police found the damaged drone, both men were arrested and taken to Wollongong Police Station.

Police later executed a search warrant at a home on Cliff Road, Wollongong on Wednesday (29 April) where they found the front door of the home had been modified with metal and several deadbolts to secure the premises.

Police allegedly seized a baton, an electronic stun device, 42 g of methylamphetamine and $4350 in cash.

Both men were charged with supply prohibited drug more than indictable and less than commercial quantity, enter enclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse and possess prohibited drug.

Police will allege in court the men were using the drone to deliver drugs in the area when it crashed.

They were both refused bail and will appear before Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday 12 May.
