Two people have been charged after they allegedly led police on a pursuit around Lake Illawarra and Warrawong with small children in the vehicle.

Officers from State Crime Command’s Raptor Squad attempted to speak with the occupants of a vehicle parked on Shellharbour Road in Warrawong at about 2:10 pm on Wednesday (22 April) but while speaking to the female driver and male passenger the female allegedly reversed and rammed the unmarked police vehicle before driving off.

A pursuit was initiated and after a short time the vehicle slowed down on Cowper Street, where the male passenger allegedly exited the moving vehicle carrying a small child and ran away.

The vehicle allegedly continued to drive around the Warrawong area, before it was stopped on Bent Street. A second small child was located inside the vehicle.

Following inquiries, the 23-year-old man and child who had exited the vehicle were located at a nearby shopping centre on Cowper Street a short time later.
