Whether you have a dog, want a dog, or just like hanging out with furry friends, a special event on this weekend should scratch that itch.
The North Gong Dog Day, a collaboration between Pound Paws and The North Gong Hotel, is on Saturday 21 September.
The entire hotel and carpark will be taken over for this puppy fiesta, featuring an array of activities and entertainment for pets and their owners.
North Gong Hotel manager Joshua Hill said the pub had supported the event for five years and it was a fun day out for everyone involved.
“The North Gong Hotel takes great pride in its ongoing support of pet adoption through our partnership with Pound Paws,” he said.
“The Dog Day event has not only grown each year but has become a celebration of the amazing and supportive community we are fortunate to be a part of.”
As part of the Pound Paws Dog Day series, the event aims to shine a light on pet adoption and support rescue groups from across NSW.
These events provide a crucial platform for rescue organisations to connect with potential adopters, find loving homes for their animals, and raise much-needed funds for their efforts.
Pound Paws founder Brittany Bloomer said events like the North Gong Dog Day gave pets the chance to travel a little further afield to find their forever home.
“Pound Paws is incredibly thankful to both the North Gong Hotel and the local Illawarra community for their support,” she said.
“Their involvement has been key to the success of this event over the past five years.
“Each year, we collaborate with a variety of dog rescue groups across NSW, creating even more opportunities for pets to find their loving forever homes.”
Dog owners and enthusiasts can look forward to exploring pet market stalls offering everything from doggy fashion and organic treats to training sessions and pet art activities.
There will be live music performances by local artists, a Rescue Dog Adoption Parade, talks on responsible pet ownership, a doggy ball pit, and even a Puppy Paw-casso Art Station where your pup can show off their creative side.
Four-legged attendees will be spoiled with a delicious pub feast courtesy of Amanda’s Homemade Dog Treats, which includes doggy beer, snacks, and paw-secco for the more sophisticated pups.
Don’t have a dog? No worries! There will be dogs available for adoption from various NSW rescue groups, including Rescue Hub, Animal Trust Society, Wollongong Paws Connection, and Country Companion Animal Rescue.
For those dogs who love to be the centre of attention they can take the opportunity to strut their stuff on stage, showing off their best costumes or tricks for a chance to win prizes.
Pound Paws is an Australian charity with an online search engine that allows users to find their ideal pet in pounds and rescue centres across the country. They also host adoption events, like the North Gong Dog Day, to assist rescue groups in finding homes for pets.
The event will run from noon to 4 pm and entry is free. You can register your attendance at eventbrite.
