If you have youngsters who’d love to try their hand at cricket, a former Illawarra junior and now state representative wants to meet them.

NSW and WBBL cricketer Tahlia Wilson, who played with Albion Park from Under 10s to 16s, will be at Cricket Illawarra’s Come and Try Cricket Day on Thursday 12 September.

This event aims to introduce children aged up to 11 years old to the joys of cricket with a variety of fun activities, games, and interactive sessions.

It’s designed for children who have not yet registered with a local cricket club to experience the sport in a friendly, non-competitive environment.

For those already registered with a club, it will provide an additional chance to enjoy cricket at North Dalton Park, surrounded by many other young players.

Tahlia has been involved with several Come Try Cricket Days for Cricket Illawarra over the past few years and said she loved the impact the event had on the children who attended.

“I’ve just loved to see how many boys and girls have showed up,” she said.

“I think every year the numbers have increased; it’s good to see how much fun they’re having, the smiles on their faces and they really love cricket.”

Cricket Illawarra President Andrew Maher said the event also aimed to help grow the game at the grassroots level.

“We see that the day is a way all clubs in the area can participate and benefit from potential new members signing up. Ultimately, we see participation as the starting point,” he said.

The Come Try Cricket Day is at North Dalton Park on Thursday 12 September from 4-5:30 pm. Parking is available on-site. More information is available from Cricket Illawarra.
