Meet our loveable Pets of the Week looking for forever homes while in care with Wollongong Pet Connection.

Dog of the week: Shania

Meet Shania!

Shania is a seven-year-old German shepherd, who in spite of a tough life is playful, loving and clever.

Shania was emaciated with missing fur and suffering from untreated injuries when she first came into care.

Thanks to plenty of love – and time – Shania has transformed into the healthy, happy girl she was always meant to be.

Shania’s carers say her spirits are undaunted and she is rediscovering the joy of being a dog. Now she’s looking for a family to share in that joy.

She’s toilet trained, quiet overnight, and non-destructive.

Shania is strong on the lead and can be reactive to other dogs during walks, especially in busy areas, but her foster carer believes this is more about excitement and poor manners than aggression.

With consistent training and calmer walking environments, Shania has the potential to improve significantly.

To help manage her stimulation levels, her foster carer walks her during quiet periods when fewer dogs are around. She responds well to treat-based redirection and is eager to learn.

Importantly, Shania shows no aggression towards the dog next door — just tail wags and friendly interest.

Shania would thrive in a calm, loving home with someone who understands the needs of a senior shepherd and is committed to continuing her training.

She’d do well as an only dog or with another friendly, well-mannered companion.

Her ideal family will be patient, kind, and willing to help her continue healing — both physically and emotionally.

In return, Shania will offer loyalty, affection, and the joy of watching a once neglected dog blossom into her best self.

Norma likes to play hard to get - but that's because underneath she's a huge softie.

Cat of the week: Norma

Meet Norma!

Norma is a charming and super cuddly 10-month-old cat who is ready to grace your home with her warmth and playfulness.

Norma has an irresistible friendly streak, and once she feels comfortable with you, her affectionate side shines brightly.

Whether she’s snuggling up next to you or playfully chasing her favourite toys, Norma’s loving presence is sure to bring joy and comfort to your life.

Norma loves to cuddle up in bed at night with her person and is always ready to receive a head scratch or a cuddle.

She’s no pushover though – Norma has plenty of sass when she meets new people, but is quickly won over with a little patience.

Once she feels at ease, she transforms into the most loyal and loving feline friend.

Norma does not enjoy being in a cat carrier, and trips to the vet or any car travel need a bit of extra planning and patience.

Norma is an adorable bundle of love and playfulness, and she promises to bring warmth and happiness to anyone looking for a devoted, cuddly companion.

To arrange a meet-up with Shania or Norma, fill out the apply to adopt form on the Wollongong City Council website. A council officer will contact you to arrange a meet and greet with your potential new furry friend at a convenient location to you. Shania and Norma come microchipped, desexed, vaccinated, flea and worm checked and lifetime registered.
