A woman and a child are in serious conditions in hospital following a stabbing in Wongawilli.
A NSW Police spokesperson said a woman will face court on Thursday (12 June) over the stabbings which took place on Wednesday (11 June).
“Just before 6 pm, emergency services were called to West Dapto Road at Wongawilli after reports of a stabbing,” the NSW Police spokesperson said.
“On arrival, officers attached to Lake Illawarra Police District were told a woman was driving with her two children, aged 10 and 3, when they were allegedly made to stop by another vehicle.
“The driver of the other vehicle, an older woman known to them, allegedly exited and approached their vehicle, before an altercation began.
“During the altercation, the older woman allegedly stabbed a 27-year-old woman and the 10-year-old boy.”
Police and NSW Ambulance paramedics treated both the woman and the boy for stab wounds.
They were both flown to hospital in serious but stable conditions.
The three-year-old boy was uninjured and was taken into the care of a family member.
A crime scene was established and an investigation into the incident commenced.
Following inquiries, at about 6:30 pm, police attended a Horsley home where they arrested a 59-year-old woman.
She was taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station, where she was charged with two counts of wounding a person with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
She was refused bail to appear before Wollongong Local Court on Thursday (12 June).
