The NSW Government will build a new ambulance station in Unanderra – but where?

Health Infrastructure is working with NSW Ambulance and other key stakeholders across government to identify potential sites in Unanderra and surrounding areas for additional ambulance stations and prioritise delivery.

This includes conducting a thorough land search to identify potential locations that best meet the needs of the community for ambulance operations.

Expressions of interest are being sought for suitable sites to build the new ambulance station at Unanderra.

Member for Wollongong Paul Scully said it was a much-needed facility.

“I’m really pleased Unanderra is getting a new ambulance station with dedicated paramedics who can respond to the needs of the growing local community,” he said.

“This new station, along with the station under construction in Fairy Meadow, will help to deliver a much-needed service boost.

“The NSW Government is now looking for the best location in Unanderra which will optimise ambulance response times to provide care and meet the future health needs of the community.”

All sites nominated will undergo a thorough evaluation to ensure they are located at places which optimise ambulance response times and meet the needs of the community.

Sites will be evaluated based on size, location, access and traffic considerations, and other factors that may influence development timelines and costs.

Locations for new stations are determined by NSW Ambulance following a comprehensive service planning process using best practice modelling software which maps triple zero calls.

The exact locations of the new stations will be confirmed once the land search and acquisition process is finalised. Construction and operational timeframes will be determined as the relevant project planning progresses.

Minister for Health Ryan Park said the new stations would help improve response times for emergency care.

“We are progressing with planning to identify suitable sites to deliver new, modern and purpose-built ambulance stations which will support local paramedics to provide the best emergency medical care now and into the future,” he said.

“This new infrastructure will enhance network coverage and support the existing ambulance stations in the ambulance network in NSW.

“These new ambulance stations will bolster emergency care for growing communities across the state and provide a first-class purpose-built workplace for our hardworking paramedics.”

The infrastructure rollout for the $615.5 million NSW Ambulance Infrastructure Program is progressing with land already purchased for new ambulance stations at North Sydney, South Windsor, Oran Park and Berowra.
