A residential street in Corrimal was shut down yesterday after reports of an alleged shooting.

A NSW Police spokesperson said emergency services were called to The Avenue about 4 pm on Wednesday, 16 April.

“On arrival, officers attached to Wollongong Police District found a 58-year-old man with a firearm dropped in front of him,” the NSW Police spokesperson said.

“Police were told a number of shots were fired at a unit from the street however, there were no injuries reported.

“The 58-year-old man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics at the scene before being taken to Wollongong Police Station for further inquiries.

“Another man – aged 46-year-old – was treated by NSW paramedics as precaution.”

The spokesperson said the older man remains in hospital.

There have been no charges laid as yet, but inquiries suggest the two men were known to each other.

“There is no concern for public safety,” the NSW Police spokesperson said.

“A crime scene has been established and an investigation into the incident has been commenced.”
