Looking to add some personality plus in a pint-sized package to your life?
Want to watch a bunny unfurl – or flop – into her best life?
Meet Fern.
Fern is about two years old and has been in care with The Rabbit Sanctuary since October 2023.
Foster carer Yuka Takao can’t understand why.
“She has a really vibrant personality, she’s adaptable, really healthy and food-motivated,” Yuka said.
“She loves people. When I brought friends over, she would go right up to them and lick them, she’s a kisser and will lick you endlessly.
“She’s not scared of dogs or cats and gets on with other bunnies and children too.”
Yuka said Fern’s main skill sets were providing kisses, doing Olympic-height binkies (she has been known to hit her head on the bottom of the dining table in her excitement) and doing super-sized poops.
Luckily, rabbit poo is easy to clean and doesn’t smell.
“It means she’s eating well and her insides are working well, so it’s a good thing,” Yuka said.
“But lots of people commented on it when we took her to Bunnings.”
On her Bunnings excursion, Fern was delighted to lap up the attention of an adoring public.
While the other bunnies were hiding up the back, Fern flopped down in prime position for pats.
Yuka said that was Fern’s attitude to any big life change.
“She’s really confident,” Yuka said.
“When I brought her home, she just flopped straight down and relaxed, she’s not afraid of anything. She has an amazing ability to adapt very quickly.”
With Fern’s confidence comes an inquisitive nature, so potential adopters will need to bunny-proof and escape-proof Fern’s new home.
She will reward you with endless affection and laughs.
Fern weighs 2.4 kg and would suit a home with a single person or family, alone or with other fur siblings.
She’s not a picky bun – it’s all about the vibes.
“She’s waiting for her soul family to come along,” Yuka said.
In her new home, Fern will need a playpen, pay tunnel or hidey-house, litter tray with litter, high-quality pellets, hay and access to water.
She’s also very food-motivated – if you can supply treats, she’ll come running.
“If I make a click with my tongue, she knows that means treats and she’ll sprint out from wherever she’s sleeping,” Yuka said.
“Sometimes she skids out on the wooden floor, she’s going so fast.”
