Man in critical condition after Fairy Meadow assault; three children and an adult arrested

Three children and an adult have been charged following an assault at Fairy Meadow that left a man in a critical condition last week, NSW Police say.

A NSW Police spokesperson said that at about 10:00 pm on Thursday (22 February), two men were sitting on a park bench at a Surf Club on Elliotts Road, Fairy Meadow, when they were approached by four people.

A male person allegedly threatened the two men with a knife, before demanding alcohol, cigarettes and vapes.

“A scuffle has ensued, and an 18-year-old man was allegedly punched and kicked in the head,” the spokesperson said.

“The group fled the scene towards Elliotts Road through Thomas Dalton Park, Fairy Meadow.

“NSW Ambulance paramedics attended and treated the man for serious head injuries.

“He was taken to Wollongong Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.”

Officers attached to Wollongong Police District established a crime scene and Strike Force McLennan to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Following inquiries, police arrested a 23-year-old man on Squires Way, Fairy Meadow at about 2:30 pm on Saturday (24 February).

He was taken to Wollongong Police Station, where he was charged with grievous bodily harm with intent, affray, actual bodily harm in company and common assault.

He was refused bail in Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday (27 February) and will reappear on Wednesday 17 April.

On Saturday (24 February), a 14-year-old boy and 16-year-old girl attended Wollongong Police Station separately and were arrested.

The boy was charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, affray, actual bodily harm in company and common assault.

The girl was charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, affray, assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company and common assault.

They were refused bail, with their matters before the Children’s Court.

Following investigations, police then arrested a 16-year-old boy in Thornleigh at about 10:30 am on Monday (26 February).

He was conveyed to Hornsby Police Station and charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, affray, actual bodily harm in company and common assault.

He was refused bail, with the matters before the Children’s Court.
