Police appeal for witnesses to fatal Thirroul crash

Police hope witnesses to a fatal crash in Thirroul earlier this month will come forward.

A NSW Police spokesperson said about 5:30 pm on Wednesday 10 January 2024 emergency services were called to Lawrence Hargrave Drive, Thirroul, following reports of a single vehicle crash.

On arrival, officers attached to Wollongong Police District located a 61-year-old man suffering from significant injuries.

The man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Wollongong Hospital, where he was later transported to St George Hospital in a serious condition.

Police were told that the man was riding his scooter before he allegedly crashed into the gutter.

A crime scene was established and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident commenced.

On Friday 26 January 2024 police were notified that the man had died at St George Hospital.

As inquiries continue, anyone who has information, dash cam footage or rendered first aid at the time of incident is urged to contact Wollongong Police District or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
