Meet our pet of the week, who’s patiently waiting for his new home at the RSPCA Illawarra shelter – Jupiter!

Jupiter is a lovable nine-month-old Cane Corso pup, on the lookout for his forever family.

Jupiter came in to care with his mum and eight siblings, most of which have already found the home of their dreams.

Despite a rough start, Jupiter hasn’t given up hope that his happy ending is right around the corner.

Jupiter loves spending the day playing and splashing around in his shell pool as well as doing training sessions with his foster mum.

As he is still a puppy, he is still learning about the world, so training helps him with his confidence and also brings him and his humans closer together.

He is an affectionate boy that loves snuggling on the lounge with his foster mum.

Though Jupiter can be shy at first, once he feels safe and comfortable with you he is an absolute love bug who is great with dog-confident children as well as his four-legged foster brother.

Also known as Italian Mastiffs, the Cane Corso’s lineage goes back to Roman times, although they’re relatively recent arrivals in Australia – they were only formally recognised by the Australian National Kennel Council in 2003.

Without the distinctive loose skin of an English Mastiff, Cane Corsos are less prone to drooling, and more energetic.

Cane Corsos bond strongly with their families, and like most other mastiff breeds have an urge to protect, but like other breeds, every dog has its own individual personality.

That’s one of the reasons RSPCA Illawarra is keen to find Jupiter his forever home ASAP – if he bonds too closely with his foster mum and fur brother, he may find it hard to say goodbye.

Jupiter will grow up to be a big boy, and because of his size, he is not recommended for homes with cats or pocket pets, as he could accidentally hurt them.

If Jupiter sounds like the dog for you, and you have any children or another dog at home, he’d love to meet them first, just to make sure they’re a perfect match.

If you have room in your heart and home for this special boy and are interested in meeting Jupiter, please visit the Illawarra RSPCA shelter at 54 Industrial Rd, Unanderra, or call them on (02) 4271 3410.

The shelter is open 10 am – 3:30 pm Tuesday to Sunday.
